Current Music: "Diamonds and Rust" by Judas Priest
So, I pose the following question to you:
A) the faithful GSC reader who checks my blog daily, weekly, or even monthly, each time hoping in vain for an update, a post, a witticism, essay, rant, commentary, summary, joke, quip, quote, link, or such, and is disappointed constantly
B) the casual websurfer who happens to wonder why my last update was like, a month ago
Q: Is this blog worth continuing?
That's really not a call for compliments or something of the sort (though I do appreciate those, especially ones of late like Kyle or my man Jesus Wilmore), I'm just curious if everybody has given up on this site, or still doggedly check (like Klaus) and want me to try to post more.
Actually, as webmaster for the Ship of Fools, I update our club website more often than this blog. I have to!
What are you interested in? What do you want to hear about in my life? I'm giving you, the teeming masses, a chance to directly influence my posting.
Want to know about my relationship and love life? Let me know.
Curious how bad my classes are and what I'm learning? Let me know.
Pining for another joke or show review for the Ship of Fools? Let me know.
Need to satisfy your inquisitive nature about my professional career? Let me know.
I'm out of verbose questions? Let me know.

Whenever you feel that blogging is more of a requirement than a desire, it's probably time to stop. Blogging is more about expressing what you're feeling, thinking, and what's going on with you however big or small it may be. It's so that others not directly around you have a chance to engage in your life where they may not have a chance to otherwise. I've been reading a long time and always enjoy it. I suggest you try frequent small posts instead of the weekly/monthly uber large posts. It's up to you man. You have to keep on keepin' on.
ReplyDeletei read (I have a blog folder in my favorites)... but i bet you can't guess who this is :)
ReplyDeleteOk, so that wasn't exactly an informative comment (it's Kelly Patterson, btw). I like to read everyone's blog from back home to see how they're doing, but don't actually have one of my own... which feels like cheating in a strange way...
ReplyDeleteOh Oh OH!!!! Call on me pick me! Oh! Right here! I know the answer!!!!
ReplyDeleteI check occasionally becuase it's nice to check up on you....but i think Jared is very right. DO it for you-not for the readers.
I check every single weekday. It's just habit.
ReplyDeleteAs an avid blogger I think you know my *ideal* solution (blog yer brains out!), but I've also been a college student and sometimes other things have to be more important.
I check this blog everyday. And as much as I love reading the writings of one Rex I have to agree with Stancey and Jared. Write for you, write because you have something to share like a carnot cycle joke or because der GUTS ist gut, write because you'd rather do this than thermo. Whatever your decision do it for you, not your millions of fans that want to learn more about der Aggrokraggen.

It's only fun for us when it's fun for you. If you ain't feelin' it, don't write it. But even if you post 6 times a year, if those are 6 times that you actually have the desire to write about something (be it you, land in Montana, double-a batteries, whatever), it will be worth the 658,103.54 times annually I check this blog.

Don't decide to quit, just write when you feel like it. It's a blog, not a job.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you quit blogging, I will stab you in the face.
I have a few things to say:
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you're a pillar in my blogging house.
Second of all, YOU once told me, after I posted about the same thing, that comments are directly corresponding to the topic at hand.
Writing=Comments.
It's what you told me.
Well I think everybody else pretty much has the reasoning bases covered here T. But, as is my want, I shall insist on throwing in my 2 cents worth. I check your blog at least 5 or 6 times a week, if not daily. Sometimes bi-daily. I very much enjoy whatever topics you choose to write about. But that's just the point. It's what you choose to write about. If I said I want to hear about what you learned in class each and every day, then it would just be another assignment. Another arduous task. That having been said, I shall be very disapointed if you give up blogging all together. When it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter if you write everyday, or once a month. Just write when you have something to share or you feel like musing upon a subject or when you just want to get something off your chest. There are times when I have no news whatsoever, but I feel like writing so I just sit down and start typing out whatever is on my mind
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I for one will be delighted with whatever you decide to give.
