Perhaps I haven't met them yet, but I really haven't met all the Class Valedictorian/insane GPA/genius/6+ APs/Matt Risleys, Randy Askins, Andrew Feduses that I was led to believe comprised my entire freshman class except for me. Don't get me wrong. I know several very very intelligent people here. But I honestly thought that every person at Purdue was the competiton to beat from their own high school.
Instead I meet really nice, really laid back, average kids who just want to continue their education and do different things. If anything, with my test scores and AP work, I'm in the upper parts of my class (awesomeness) and I know, that deep down, I want this more than they do.
So today was my first day of class. I'm really getting an intuitive feel for directions, even on this massive fruggin' campus, keeping in mind Ricky's key landmarks (the Bell Tower, the Math Building, the fountains), so I found all my classes ok. What I don't have an intuitive feel for is mealtimes. Let's just say that walking from EE back to Hillenbrand for lunch (a 20 minute walk) only to find out they're closed....oy. At any rate, all three classes are huge lectures. Finished my calculus homework at Hicks Library (I'm gonna try to make that a regular thing). Calculus is going to be tough because it's all review, but perhaps that's a good thing- a semi easy class for my first semester to really cement those foundations of calculus. Chemistry is a bit tougher because it's been longer since I've done any, but if I can make it through two semesters then I'll be finished (ANDY HELP ME PLEASE). I think Engineering 106 will be one of my favorites because it's new, and it's more problem solving/engineering problems.
Anyway, tomorrow is my short day. Two quick classes, bickety-bam, then I'm done for the day at 10:30.

I've wanted this more and longer than you'd ever know.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be at Hicks tomorrow after my classes sometime between 11 and 2ish, depending on how hungry I am. I like the study lounges right by entrance.
Actually, I'm a very visual oriented person, so the Union actually helps me when I'm on that corner of the campus, even if it's for directional purposes.
Thats awesome man. Hope your having a really good time. I have met some smart people too but nobody in engineering that tries to act intimidating
