The end of Boiler Gold Rush, but the beginning of Purdue.

All too quickly BGR is over. Let's try to recap some of the highlights:

*Got up every day at 7, no problem, and woke up Jason (Mr. Sleeps Through Everything), took my shower and cleaned up my tiny little dorm.

*Had to wear a freakin' plastic armband since Sunday, and I finally got to take it off. That thing got annoying, fast. To ensure I wasn't late for anything, I started wearing a watch again, much to my dismay. Numerous comments and compliments on the pilot sunglasses. ^_^

*Met my BGR group at the lobby every morning and slowly discovered all the close dining halls. Hillenbrand has the best facilities, period, but I highly suggest the waffles. Harrison is poorly designed but has great food (including a salad bar). Earhart just sucks, period.

*Dozens of boring, repetitive, stale, and lame presentations on alcoholism, safety, abuse, diversity, studying, etc. etc. etc.

*A few innnovative and entertaining segments, including a skit with a Top Gun intro, and an entire "buy Purdue athletic tickets" skit done entirely to Office Space.

*Learned the campus bus system, and walked at least a few miles every day. Am starting to know my way around this gargantuan campus.

*Starting to eat well and in large amounts. Which is probably a by-product of the mass sun, exercise, walking, running, and stairclimbing I've been doing as of late (versus nothingness a week ago).

*Diversity and ethical discussions and activities at FreeZone and by the Guerilla Theatre Troupe. Purdue is the most diverse public university in the US, representing all 50 states and dozens of countries.

*3 individual comedians, one of which does a dead on impression of the cast of "King of the Hill" and various sound effects.

*Had a bit of fun with watergun fights, fountain runs, seeing Purdue's improv group, the Crazy Monkeys (yay sis! these guys had an audience of 700 students for two back to back shows!), and teambuilding "Icebreakers" like the "Human Knot" and that stupid game where everybody says their name and a phonetic activity (I was "rollerskating Ryan") and each person says all the previous ones, in order.

*Daily "Roll Call," which, in West Lafayette, roughly translates to "shout, clap, stomp, and yell your ass off when we call your dorm hall, for no real reason at all," and all for "Whose Line" points (in that they don't mean anything).

*Met with several Engineering professors and students and recieved some very nice advice. Totally nervous and scared about my first year, but every day I am more and more sure that this is what is right for me.

*Met hundreds of new people, only some of which I remember.

*Bombarded by dozens of athletic and campus groups, a lot of which I want to join, but I must first figure out how much studying my classes will need.

*Had a particularly lovely evening (Tuesday) where I recieved mail, my computer, and my books. All were delivered to the basement of my dorm hall, I discovered, while on a quest to conquer the fickle mistresses that are the laundry machines. Thanks Mom, Dad, and Brad for the letter! Spent the evening setting up my new Dell computer instead of a late night Meijer Run (actually a sanctioned activity). However, the bastards at Dell, despite their excellent computer, neglected to send me a USB cable for my printer. Fuckheads. Speaking of, I think I'm gonna run to the Union tomorrow to change my schedule, which probably means my books will need to be switched, also. *sigh*

I promise that soon I'll quit posting about mundane shit like laundry, but for now, it's new, it's exciting, and it's all I have. And it lets the folks back home know a little bit about my life here. I'm going to try to get some pictures soon of my dorm, friends, and Purdue life soon.
