Flight status:
Yesterday between school and work was my flight physical. I would've been able to get a 1st class (the most rigorous, for corporate pilots) or even a 2nd but my eyesight is only 20/40. I wish I had 20/20, but I don't. Dr. Berks, the aviation doctor at Sporty's, said I was in great health (and I officially am 5'4," thak you very much) except I need better eyesight if I'm gonna be a better pilot. I think I'll just get Lasik surgery and get it over with. :::sigh::: The receptionist was a very sarcastic and dry humored lady, and this was a sharp contrast to Dr. Berks (a mellow little guy). The receptionist kept making me fill out rediculous amounts of forms and little things here and there, and it reminded me of the scene from The Right Stuff- "The drill here is to see who can drill the brains out of nurse Mirch."

I went flying today. I took my Pre-Solo exam, and did well on every part except one, where I missed nearly every question. My instructor looked confused until he realized we hadn't gone over that material yet, so I passed. I would've gone for my solo today, but we had gusting winds up to 20 knots.

Instead, we went out for crosswind practice (when the winds aren't parallel to the runway). What a barrel of monkeys that was......gotta watch the glideslope, the light indicators, the centerline, the touchdown point, airspeed, pitch, flare point, flaps, throttle, aileron control, as well as the tricky rudder on our particular airplane. I did ok, but I'd rather not ever do it again. Well, I love a good challenge, so I bet I'll be practicing them more.

At one point, I looked out and pointed out to my instructor a small black dot heading toward the 45 upwind- I asked him if it was one of ours. He said, and I quote: "It's a bird. No, It's a plane....." I couldn't help but smile.

This puts the next shot at a solo flight for Sunday. Here's hoping that there's more beautiful weather like today in store for the weekend.
