I didn't post yesterday cuz' I was so tired after a looong day at work. Speaking of work, we had beef stew at work yesterday...... mmmmmm. Oh, I also closed with Chuck. The thing is, Chuck is slow. No ifs, ands, or buts. Usually, I start dishes at 6:10, finish at 7:30, I'm out by 8, home and cleaned up by 8:30. On a good day, subtract up to 15 minutes from the last 3 times. Chuck starts at 6:30, fnishes by 8, I'm out by 8:30, home and showered by 9. Oh well.
Speaking of work, I saved somebody's life at work on Tuesday. As I was passing out desserts to the dinining room, I noticed one of our residents was having trouble swallowing the beef stew and had her bib covering her face. I ran and got Alice, the nurse, from the hallway and notified her (I digress......as a kitchen staff person, in the dietary department, I'm not allowed, compelled, ordered, or even encouraged to take actions conducive to resident saftey beyond normal measures........that basically means I'd be applauded but quietly and severely punished if I'd taken action and saved her, and outright fired if something had gone wrong......all the main resident saftey is on the nursing department........to make a long story short, I did exactly what I was supposed to). Alice, as well as Judy, both LPNs (Liscenced practicing nurses) came to the resident's side and helped her, and Alice later told me that I did the right thing, and something serious could've easliy happened had I not taken such quick action. I figured by telling the exact truth and being honest about my "running and getting the right person" rather than trying to do something I really wasn't qualified for serves a twofold purpose; 1, sometimes, some jobs are best handled by the qualified, not the enthusiastic and well meaning, and 2, I hope by telling it this way, my audience won't think I'm bragging or something like that. Overall, however, I feel pretty good about it. :)
