I'm contemplating getting rid of the last vestige of my early internet use: uninstalling AOL Instant Messenger. Thoughts?
This is kind of a lame post, so check out some more funny from Tripod (the music group).

I think if I were you I wouldn't actually uninstall it. Maybe don't use it anymore, but I still think it can come in handy when you need a last-minute homework question answered or you need to get ahold of a certain person you rarely talk to.
ReplyDeleteI guess you *could* use AIM Express for that, though...
What is it about Aero engineers uninstalling AIM? My roommate and several of his aero friends would routinely uninstall it only to reinstall it later. They would remove it because they thought they would be more efficient. Most often they would realize they had a question and in order to get in contact with someone they would use AIM. I would say leave the AIM and just not use it.
ReplyDeleteI used to have it uninstalled, and unless your core group of people you talk to are on G-Talk, I wouldn't uninstall, but just don't load it
ReplyDeleteEveryone I know who has tried... has failed. Including Jared and Bradley. *shrug* Try it if you want... it'll probably be more annoying than just leaving things as they were.
ReplyDeleteYou could uninstall AIM and replace it with a third-party client....
ReplyDeleteUse this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.aimadhack.net/oldaim/AIM%20Ad%20Hack%204.16.exe
It gets rid of ads, useless buttons, etc.
Also, it's the old, "good" version of AIM.
No spyware, toolbars, etc. It basically "cleans" AIM while it installs it. It's nice.
Make sure you uninstall whatever AIM client you're currently using before you run the above.
I appreciate all the comments. Mainly I'm just trying to curb the habit, and if it's there, I have a hard time not using it.
