a Halloween Grinch

Boy, was I mistaken.

I thought trick or treating ended a few years ago. Imagine the look on my face, then, when all throughout the weekend I was assaulted by various forms of costumery and trick-or-treatery. I had no idea that people actually made it a yearly point to organize a drag show or a Rocky Horror Picture Show presentation.

Let me put that a different way. People haven't gotten any less enthusiastic about Halloween here at college. They've simply added more elaborate costumes, decorations, and beer.

...

I had a thankful moment a few days ago. I was walking back to my dorm from the Engineering Mall and I overheard two girls in front of me talking about classes. One girl complained that "oh, I'd love to take such-and-such a class, but I could never do that. My parents would never approve". The other girl agreed with "My parents told me that if I don't stay in this major, they won't pay for my tuition". This is generally supported by my friends, who cannot do certain things, lest their funds from home be cut off.

Let me just state here and now that I'm very glad that my parents treat me the way they do. My parent's college philosophy:
1. We trust and have faith in our parenting skills that we've raised an intelligent, honest, hardworking, and trustworthy son who will do his best to make the right decisions.
2. Ryan's college education is exactly that- Ryan's college education. If Ryan wants to take a class in philosophy or culinary arts, more power to him.
3. College is important, and even though it's out of state and very expensive, we will move mountains to figure out a way to get him to go.

Then again, I do have a bit more freedom, seeing how all the student loans are in my name and I'm the one footing the bill for the bulk of this "higher education" adventure.

Speaking of family...Ohio "falls back" for daylight savings tonight. Finally, they'll be on "my" time.
...

I'll be glad when these next few days are done. I'm sick of Halloween, I'm sick of the election, and quite frankly, Purdue's loss to Northwestern this weekend didn't put me in a very good mood either.

Purdue: 5-3, 2-3 Big Ten
Boiler up? Please?
