Math 161
*lecture(M/W/F)
*recitation(T/Th)
Obviously, I've already had a year of AP Calculus, so this class, so far, is really boring. Still, it can't hurt an engineer to be solid in the basics, so this class will help solidify my calculus skills, fill in any small gaps, let me get used to recitation and exams, and strengthen my learning. I can't really understand my foreign TA in recitation, and I feel claustrophobic after the lectures in this tiny class. Taking this class will prepare me for Calculus II next semester, when we pick up where we ended in AP in May.
Engineering 100
*lecture(W)
Once a week lecture on the various branches and majors within engineering to help you decide. Actually pretty entertaining because of the variety, but I already know what I want, so it's sometimes a waste of my time.
Engineering 106
*lecture(M/W)
*lab(Th)
This is a serious engineering class with lectures on problem solving, teamwork, and ethics in engineering. The lab is all about learning MATLAB, an engineering software package that's tough to learn, but used for everything in engineering. Lots of group projects later in the year.
Chemistry 115
*lecture(M/F)
*lab(Th)
*recitation(W)
Five semesters of chemistry in high school, a 2 on the AP test, and here I am, back in Chemistry in college. I really don't want to do this, but all I have to do is get through this semester and the next, and I'll finish chemistry for good (I hope). My TA is actually pretty cool, reminds me of Kevin. Good news.....the lab reports are done in the lab. No procrastinating or worrying about that. Three hour labs on Thursday aren't fun, however.
Physics 149
*lecture(T/Th)
*recitation(F)
My lecture professor sounds like Charlie Gibson on Good Morning America, and my TA I swear to god sounds just like Mark (sis's friend). At any rate, this physics is for people who never took Physics in high school, which, according to my transcript, I didn't. So I should get a good solid semster of physics here, and then take 152 with the rest of everybody, except I'll be ready to do it.
Notable events of the first week:
*Professor Bob accidentally typed his password in the login box (so it wasn't ******ed) in front of 450 engineering students, and immediately had to change his password.
*Rode the bus a few times, including a superbus with a flexible midsection. Odd.
*(A while back, in an effort to reduce bicycle thefts, Purdue Police took old abandoned and unregistered bikes, cleaned them up and painted them, and set them on campus free for Purdue students to use) Found a Gold Bike and despite it being too tall for me, rode it stubbornly to campus. Swerved to miss some dumbass, racked myself, and pitched headfirst over the handlebars. NOT WORTH THE FIVE MINUTES SAVED IN TRAVEL TIME.
*Finally purchased my athletic tickets. First football home game is September 5 against Syracuse, and I need to find somebody to go with. Also, tomorrow there's a soccer game against Cincinnati that I think I'm going to go to.
*I think Jason is going to go home this weekend, either tonight or tomorrow. Lonely dorm room....
*Met more people, including two from the Cincinnati Club picnic.
*Went to the Crew (rowing) callout on Thursday, and I think I'm gonna join, for a number of reasons. Swimming test is Monday afternoon, and the first practice is Tuesday afternoon.
*Today I went to Danius's dnb concert in Memorial Park. You know you're at a huge campus when your area gets rained on, and cancels the concert early, and other parts of campus stay dry. It was cool, though, good music, met Danius and Stephanie and their friend (name?), and saw lots of cool glowstick guys.
*Speaking of music, I just got yelled at for playing my music too loud. Friday night before nine, and I can't blast out George Thorogood and Queen. Losers.
*Got into a scuffle with Follett's over a book they didn't have when I ordered my books. They didn't even tell me I had to get it. So I finally got that (MATLAB book). Heard Huey Louis "The Power of Love" and it made me think of Back to the Future, and Sis.
