Never before in my life have I wanted to be a sterotype, not like I do right now. Growing up, especially in high school, I did what I wanted how I thought it should be done, and I never fit into any group...not even my own. Now, after college visits, college fairs, mail, and everything- I want to be a college student so bad. I want to walk around campus in sandals, shorts, and a hoodie with a messenger bag, Purdue written over everything, studying in dorms, perpetually broke, studying, partying, hanging out, knowing the campus inside and out, meal plans.........*sigh* August 14 will come soon enough.
While we're on the subject of college, I want to issue a general statement. PURDUE NEEDS MORE WOMEN ENGINEERS. Nothing like going to orientation with 80 other male freshman engineers, and seven females. That's not a good ratio.
Learned about the EAI (Engineering Aptitude Index). Basically a GPA calculated of the most critical engineering classes, this is the lifeblood of all engineering students. All Purdue students start out as Freshman Engineers, then select a specifc discipline Sophomore year. I must have an EAI of 2.5 or better for Aerospace Engineering placement. This is my number one goal at Purdue, no matter what.
About the actual trip- I navigated (maps = awesome), mostly because I can read in the car. We stayed at the Baymont Inn and ate at Dogs n' Suds (both quickly becoming tradition), slightly away from the campus. We shopped for some Purdue merchandise (I know what everybody's getting for gifts this holiday season!...). Got to swim at the hotel! Yay for post-surgery exercise! Waking up at 6 was a treat, considering the last time I saw that part of the day, David, Eric, and I were still awake from the night before. Dry orientation (Bradley is now the master of college orientations). I actually took a really good photo for my school ID- I smiled! Genuinely! Considering the size of the campus, I'm thinking about buying a bike. Toured my residence hall, McCutcheon, whose dorm club is the Royal Highlanders (Born to be Kings.....Princes of the Universe) and has a Nintendo theme. Old school. Actually got a tan back at the hotel, as well as wicked case of chair face/chest...I looked like a robot. Stopped at DQ and found out that Dad is the source of my senstive teeth. Predicted arrive home time within 4 minutes.
Classes scheduled turned out to be quite a hassle. Turns out most of my AP credit is worth jack shit, the most frustrating of which is AP English LITERATURE, NOT LANGUAGE. *grrr* My score of 12 on the CRT plus AP Calc means I made Calc I placement. I need two semesters of Calculus, Physics, and *shudder* Chemistry (Andy-did I mention how good of a friend he is?). Plenty of Engineering classes (awesome) but the space lecture was already filled up. 17 credit hours, I believe.
BC Calculus does not stand for "Bitch of a Class" or "Badass Calculus"
A few changes to the GSC:
*New profile photo (with the new haircut, thank you)
*Archive Menu
*A new attempt to bold the most important part of each post (note, attempt)
*Mouseovers! I picked some for everybody, but I'm certainly open for suggestions! Special thanks to David for helping me out, no matter what it took.

Hey i totally get what you mean about really wanting to be a college student. When i was in high school i didn't fit into anything either. But i knew even when i was in my junior years that university is where i needed to be. And here i am. When i first hit university all i wanted to do was listen to slow rock and drink coffee. It's cool though. Nothing like high school. Back me up here Sarah, aint life just like a bowl of chocolates!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until college. Lazy clothes and late nights are what life's all about.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the mouse-overs - kinda neat.
Did you take AP Literature? That wasn't even a course offered for us. We had Lang & Comp. I think Lit would've been more enjoyable.

ReplyDelete...and ya know, I've always wanted a messenger bag because that's just cool.
Yeah, I took AP English Literature and Composition, not Language- it was the only one offered at Amelia HS.
