In keeping with my Blog name, and my desire to compete with Chris (and his history posts) and Andy (and his posts about...... everything from DDR to his new girlfriend), I'm gonna try to keep you guys posted on current space events. If you don't want to read it, then just skip over this stuff and maybe read up on my exciting life.......or something like that. Here goes:

*Seven time shuttle astronaut Chang-Diaz has been honored in his native Costa Rica by having a new species of beetle named after him (Phanaeus changdiazi), as well as his face put on a stamp
"I understand that I'm the only one who has a stamp in Costa Rica who's not dead yet" Chang-Diaz said

*August 11-13 is the Persied meteor showers. They will mostly be obscured by the full moon, so try to see 'em just at sunset or sunrise

*August 27 Mars will be only 34.65 million miles away. Look for it in the night sky. That the closest it's ever been in 60,000 years!

*Seven asteriods between Mars and Jupiter have been named for the astronauts who died in the Columbia Shuttle accident. In memoriam.
